Hello? + A few questions.

Hello there, my name is Fai :) I'm here because I'm considering to get the game, but I have a few questions before I seriously take it into consideration!
So, since a few years back I've gone through several MMORPGS, free as well as those with req. fee. The two that actually got me playing for a while are EVE and WoW, although I've stuck with the latter for the longest; three years. However, I'm getting really bored with it, and thus I looked up some new games. One of these happened to be Lineage 2, which is also the one I'm leaning to the most.
So. My questions are few, but rather long.
To begin, is there an RP-choice in Lineage 2? Say, is there a specific realm/server where you can actually RP, or is this completely dismissed?
Secondly, the graphics; from what I've seen, I find them okay. I really like the amount of detail on the characters, however, this clashes with another question. I read about "Sagas" and "Chronicles" on wiki, and this left me really confused. Say, if I want to play the latest (The chaotic chroncicle?) one, do I have to purchase the previous one (+ original game??). Or are all of these standalone-games? If so, how do I purchase the latest version online, since Sweden doesn't sell these games? (Is it even possible?)
And the third and last question! Movement; I couldn't make out if you click-run or use the keys (WSAD/arrows), so I'd like to know this as well. I prefer the keys over the clicking, and thus, I'd be grateful if you could tell me about options or such.
I believe that was all! ♥ Thank you so much, and sorry for bothering you :).
I am not sure about official, but there are loads of private servers, and I am sure there are RP servers.
I love the graphics. I much prefer them over WoW's. Chronicles are basically expansions. If you try and run the game after you install it from the box, it will attempt to update to the most recent chronicle (which I think is now 7: Kamael) This is a problem, since most private servers are usually 4-6. To bypass this, find the specific client installer online. The chronicles are not boxed like FFXII, they are just less frequent, but more major updates that are labeled well (I guess that description works) So if you plan on playing on official, just buy the game, and when you first attempt to run it, it wil start auto update to the most recent chronicle.
You can use both, but arrow keys are pretty awkward in that up is move forward and the left and right pivot the direction. It is doable, but clicking is much easier, I think.
If you have questiona about rivate servers, I can provide info on those as well. Not specific servers, but how you usually go about connecting to them. Trying out a private server may be a good idea if you want to get a feel for the game with no price obligations.
Oh lovely! You're an angel. And yes, I'd very much like to know how to connect to a private server :) ♥ Pretty sure I'll buy the game tho, since I've had some bad experiences with private servers ^~^;;Edited at 2008-01-12 08:47 pm (UTC)
With private servers you basically just download the installer client that the private server is running, or whatever means of getting it to the particular chronicle. And most times, they have a patch that you install that replaces some files. The private server I am on, has an auto updater, which is nice. And just make an account, validate if necessary, and you should be good to go.
Yeah, if I played more regularly I would probably play on official, but since I have a limited amount of time to play, I would rather not feel forced to get my monies worth per month. And most private servers have increased rates for EXP, currency, Skill Points, so even if you can't play as much, you still have a chance of advancing considerably.
Ah! So you don't have to go into the game folder itself and re-write/change stuff then? Brilliant! Thanks a lot :). Now I just need to find a decent
server then, I guess.
Yeah, some are more convenient than others in the patching procedure, but it is never that hard.
Oh, and make sure the rates are appealing to you. Many private servers have multiple servers with different rates to choose from. High rates are usually dedicated PvP servers.
Seems easier than getting the actual client, rofl
Ah sweet :) I'm not really a fan of PvP, though. *laughs*
I've never understood why people play l2 and don't like pvp. Just exp and I'd shoot myself in the head.
*Laughs* Well, I never liked it in WoW, since I'm far too impatient. I liked the actual PvP, but this "omfggearepics!11" kind of threw me off. And I'm not a good PVPer in the first place anyway, so I usually get pwnz0r'd by the elitists |:
But I guess I'll just have to try it in L2, then :).
I used to be the same way, exp++ no pvp++. Then I joined one of the biggest clans on the server full of wars and I realized I couldn't avoid pvp anymore. And since pvp is such a huge part of the game, I feel so silly for not having done it for so long when I first started.
If you want to play retail (I played private server for months and months before I went to retail, I became sick of sever crashes, and things that weren't set up properly, however, private server is a good way to get to know the game without having to put in all the time grinding and stuff) there are no RP official servers, and personally I've never seen RP as a big part of Lineage2 anyways.
As said above, the graphics are truely amazing, if you have a PC that can play full detail, even if you can't though, they're still great to look at.
All you have to buy (if you want to play retail) is a copy of the original games. ALL updates/new chronicles are completely free. Easiest way to go about it would be to purchase the game serial number online, then download from the official site rather than actually buying the box in a store, because the online one will be more up to date, meaning you'd have to download fewer updates.
Movement in Lineage 2 is done in two ways, clicking with your mouse and wasd/arrow keys. While movement with arrow keys/wasd is possible, most people use the mouse just because it seems to follow better, having said that, personally I also used the mouse to click in WoW, so it depends I suppose :P
Yeah, I was planning to purchase the game online and just download the client, however, it seems like the file is corrputed or something. I tried both sites, but the file would just download on an instant and once unzipping it it simply showed an error message :/ Which is a problem, since the game isn't sold in Sweden (not that I've seen, at least).
But thanks for the answers! ♥
There are many RP clans that will satisfy all your RP needs :)
Graphic is just amazing, but it does have higher computer requirement.
I played WoW for a little bit, but I just couldn't get myself to like their graphic.
If you don't like to pvp, be sure to find a neutral clan to join.
I assume, you will be playing on the Euro servers.
They have one of the highest population too.
